    Porsche
Porsche the company

In 1948 the first car ever to wear the Porsche badge where build. It's believed the 356 of Porsche's model number where actually the project number and later became part of the car model number and name. Before the Porsche 356 sports car, Ferdinand Porsche's company did 355 engineering jobs.

But in 1938 the company, Porsche, build a car known as the Porsche 64. The Porsche 64 where never sold and therefore the Porsche 356 sports car is accepted as the first Porsche car. The 356 sports car shared several components and characteristics of the Volkswagen Beetle, acceptable if one remembers Ferdinand Porsche participation in designing and building the Beetle as part of a previous project.

Porsche build 49 of the 356 sports car models in Gmund where after they moved the factory back to Zuffenhausen. After the World War it was then safe to move back there.
Ferdinand Porsche (father) and Ferry Porsche (son) where working on the design for the 356 Porsche. After they build the first Porsche 356 prototype Ferdinand Porsche sadly died as a result of a stroke.

In 1963 Porsche build there first 911 model sports car. This year will never be forgotten. The 911 Porsche were (and still are) to become the most popular Porsche ever build. With achievements from all kinds it's considerate a great success and even more-than-worthy competition for the Italian sports car manufacturers. A scaled down version which cost less where also been build, the Porsche 912.

Volkswagen and Porsche joined forces in 1969 to develop the VW-Porsche 914 and 916-6. This is not uncommon as these Porsches used allot of Audi components and parts. Porsche and Volkswagen had a long co-operative history. The majority of Porsche 944's were also build in an Audi Neckarsulm factory although not using that many Volkswagen components. Audi and Skoda are wholly owned companies of Volkswagen. The latest rival of Porsche AG as of 2002, the Cayenne, shares the same chassis as the Volkswagen Toureg. Toyota also assisted Porsche with Japanese production "know-hows" and hybrid technology.

Ferdinand Porsche's grandson, Ferdinand Piech are the single largest shareholder of Porsche AG. He was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Volkswagen AG from 1993 - 2002. The launch of the Porsche Cayenne in 2002 lead to a new factory been build in Leipzig Caxony which are responsible for half of Porsche's manufacturing, annually.

The Porsche Carrera GT became the costliest Porsche sports car ever build. In the 2004 this sports car, at EU450,000.00, were launched. The Porsche and Piech families retained all voting shares of Porsche AG as off 2005. In October 2005 Porsche AG bought 18.54% shares in Volkswagen AG and plans to buy more shares were not revealed.
